Hi, I’m Sophie.
PSYCHOLOGIST, THERAPIST &
MINDFULNESS TEACHER
AN EXCERPT FROM MY BOOK
“With mindfulness, we can begin to heal by becoming more aware of the deeply ingrained habits that add to our distress. We can learn to consciously address difficulties with greater kindness and compassion.”
About Me
I became interested in meditation during graduate school and have had a dedicated daily practice since 2014, attending yearly silent teacher-led retreats and working with a meditation teacher for support. My personal mindfulness practice informs how I see the world and approach my life and work.
As a clinical psychologist, I specialize in cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based approaches for depression and anxiety. I am an Associate Professor-Clinical in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where I am passionate about working to develop accessible and evidence-based pathways of care to improve patient outcomes and access to much needed mental health treatments. I am actively involved in education and supervision for students and other providers. At the core of my work is a strong reliance on evidence-based practices and I participate actively in advancing research on various clinical applications of mindfulness.
My Specialization
My work as a mindfulness teacher started with being introduced to mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) during my training. I was impressed by the strong research support for MBCT - that it helps prevent future relapse in people with recurrent depression. I was deeply moved by the power of practice and community – seeing how people could untangle long standing patterns of self-criticism and negativity and develop kinder and more accepting ways of meeting themselves and their experiences. This prompted me to become certified to teach MBCT and establish a successful MBCT program at Ohio State. I enjoy teaching groups, training other MBCT teachers, and creating opportunities for community for patients and providers. I am also trained in mindfulness-based supervision and am active in an international community of mindfulness supervisors.

Outside of a clinical setting, I love opportunities to talk to groups and organizations about mindfulness and resilience. I enjoy collaborating to create digestible content and engaging experiences to help people find ways to integrate science-based tools into their daily life and work.
I believe if we are better, we can be better to each other. I am passionate about helping people learn the skills to live and work well through understanding themselves and their values and reducing barriers to well-being.
